Second Tier Search Engines |
|
Do you remember when Alta Vista was the dominant search engine? How about Lycos? Today those search engines along with Teoma/AskJeeves, AOL, Hotbot, iwon and Netscape are somehow still hanging on, maybe to get purchased by one of the big three? To be fair, AOL uses Google results until June of 2006, then they will be powered by MSN. AskJeeves/Teoma is trying to become the 4th Big Engine, and that may be hard to do if ever. All of these search engines, I really have no clue as to how they are surviving. Aggressive advertisers will tell you that these smaller engines will bring targeted traffic, but is that true? For over 80 clients that I look at, NONE of them get high (if any) conversions from the lesser used engines. Google, MSN and Yahoo dominate the land, and I really see no change in that for at least this year. So, when applying your seo methods, forget about the 2nd tier engines and focus on the big three. -To your online success! Paul Bliss www.SEOforGoogle.com |
