Mention a black hat technique in an seo forum and "white hatters" will be all over you like you would not believe. While I do agree that spamming techniques are a waste of resources, sometimes offensive, but mostly irrelevant, they do have their place. What if the search engines never had someone constantly testing their algorithms? What if the black hatters could gain an edge by employing their techniques to the web? How would the "small guy" ever get their site ranked? They wouldn't - and that's why we need black hats. The black hats make the search engines work on cleanign up thier indexes, and makes them constantly think about what makes a site relevant - whether it's content or links or both. So, while the spam is irritating, and spammy results in the search engine are sometimes too much, I think it's a small price to pay in the advancement of the search algorithm. -To your online success!
